Jeet Kune Do

JKD is an eclectic art and is not static. Think MMA for practical street self-defense. At the Academy of Jeet Kune Do Sciences, members are exposed to Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Savate, Filipino Kali (stick/knife fighting), Wing Chun, Western Fencing, Western Boxing, Silat, Pananjakman, and Panantukan, among other styles. Some of these fighting styles are weapons-based, which means at times we train with sticks, knives, machetes, etc.

A central quality of Jeet Kune Do is combat realism. JKD values techniques based on their effectiveness in the real world. Opponents spar going all out as if they were in a real battle.

Sifu Damon Evans has been certified as an Instructor in Conceptual JKD, as well as being an official Instructor of Jun Fan Gung Fu, the martial art that Bruce Lee taught during his time in Seattle, and that which has been continued by Taky Kimura, and his son Andy Kimura.

Sifu Damon Evans is one of the premier JKD instructors currently teaching today and offers a complete curriculum designed and built upon over a 20+ year career.

Jeet Kune Do is a philosophy of life founded by martial artist Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee’s Chinese given name was Jun Fan. His connections to Hollywood made him a controversial figure, but he is largely recognized to be one of the greatest martial artists of all time. Jeet Kune Do broke down barriers between fighting styles, developing the first approach to martial arts that incorporated many different styles. This made Jeet Kune Do the original “Mixed martial Art.”

Rather than following one particular style or Grand Master, the Jeet Kune Do philosophy approaches martial arts differently. Here, each fighter is encouraged to “absorb what is useful, discards what is useless, and add what is uniquely your own,” meaning that the elements of each style that flow most naturally to the individual is kept, while that which does not flow naturally is discarded. Each individual is then able to express themselves in the unique way that puts the arts in martial arts.
